St. Johns River State College - Academic Affairs

QEP

January 25, 2021

Every ten years, SJR State’s accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is reaffirmed through a process of self-study and external peer review to ensure that we are continuing to meet the highest educational standards.

It is time for us to begin initial preparations for our next reaffirmation which is scheduled for Fall 2023. SJR State is committed to continuous improvement, and this reaffirmation process is an opportunity for us to both reflect on our strengths and, more importantly, commit energies and resources to areas we wish to improve.  Key to this process is the selection and development of a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that focuses on a specific project to support and improve student learning and/or success.  Our last QEP, Conquer Math, greatly impacted both our faculty and students across the College through the introduction of new teaching methods and technologies and the creation and funding of our Academic Support Centers. The goal of our next QEP will be to select a topic that is equally impactful to SJR State.

I have appointed Dr. Melanie Brown, Dr. David Campbell, Dr. Gilbert Evans, Dr. Ros Humerick, Dr. Ellen Burns, and Dr. Edward Jordan to serve on the QEP Steering Committee, with Dr. Jordan serving as Chair and directing the QEP process.  Implementation of this QEP will take place over a period of five to seven years, and the topic selection process will be beginning this semester.

In the weeks to come, you will be hearing more about the QEP from Dr. Jordan.  I encourage you to be engaged in the topic selection process and to share your ideas as your input is both valued and needed.  All employees interested in proposing ideas for the QEP are encouraged to attend one of the QEP Forums (dates coming soon) or to reach out to Dr. Edward Jordan.

I look forward to learning more about your ideas for this important college project.

Sincerely,

Joe H. Pickens, J.D.
